Honors FIZZIX & ASTRONOMY 2011
Intro Page
The following is an introduction to the Final Project 2011. This year, I picked a "Hollywood Science" theme. Yes, HOLLYWOOD! What does that mean? The kids have to actually pick a movie or series of movies and analyze it/them for good/bad science (with a concentration on Fizzix, of course...). This follows one of the teacher workshops I do around the country called, cleverly, Hollywood Science...

- Website Construction NOTES:
- If you already have a webpage building program, use it. These include, but are certainly not limited to, MS Frontpage, Dreamweaver, HotDog, Adobe GoLive, or even MS Word itself. I personally discourage any use of MicroSoft web eeditors, but...
- If you don't have one and don't want to use the limited and very bloated features of MS Word, go to Arachnoid.com and download the FREE webpage builder, Arachnophilia. I'd go for Version 4.0 for starters; Version 5 is much more powerful, but not as easy to use. If you have a MAC, the superior machine, you will NEED Version 5.2, but FOLLOW HIS INSTALLATION DIRECTIONS EXACTLY! My entire website is built using Arachnophilia V4. Need help with the program? Arachnophilia V4 Tutorial in PDF Format.
- For assistance, SEE ME! I'm here! Use me!
- You DO NOT need to get tricky. Make a webpage that is informational, sales oriented, humorous, physics based, WHATEVER!
- The ONLY way you can submit a webpage for publishing on the internet is through an email attachment sent directly to me at the typical HW [AT] DTFizzix.com. This way, it'll be filtered through several virus scanners. You WILL NOT be permitted to use a webpage that has not been submitted in this manner. Period.
- Timeline & 'DUE' dates...
- FRIDAY 05/20/11 - General outline. Simple, short, should include topic & how you will go about presenting it.
- THURSDAY 05/26/11 - 2 Minute presentation to class. This one is a quick intro to the "audience" (the class) about your Project. Much more detail than the outline you gave me on 05/18.
- FINAL DRAFT! [TUESDAY 05/31/11 ] This is a fully detailed typed account of your Project. MUST include:
- Full script of your presentation. This means a complete outline!
- Printed slide outline of your PPT. (Learn how to print it using 6 or 9 slides per page...)
- Full timeline. We need to know exactly how long your presentation will take.
- Printed webpage(s). MUST have something ready to go! This gives us a week to make it better!
- Printed version of your Presentation Handout, if used.
- WEDNESDAY 06/01/11 - Full presentations begin. We should be able to get 2-4 each block. You will know the order of the presentations by TUESDAY 05/31/11 .
NOTE: It is your responsibility to send via email attachment both your presentation and webpage at least one day BEFORE your presentation. Make sure you refer tpo your Project Number in the email so I can copy your files to the right folder.
- TUESDAY 05/31/11 - PREFINAL will be placed online for your reviewing pleasure! See me at any scheduled review time for assistance. NO CLASS time will be used unless the presentations get done early.
